Such kinds of collars are similar to choke ones, so they are used in different areas of dog trainings, especially in obedience training.
The choke dog collar is considered to be a “dog training collar”. There has been a huge debate over whether or not the choke chain is dangerous. In fact, choke chains are not intended to choke your dog! The intent is that when the collar is tugged it will pinch the brachial nerve in the dog's neck (much like pinching the funny bone) or according to some people it is intended to simulate how a mother will nip a puppy on the neck to correct it. Therefore, the choke collar is NOT intended to choke your English Bulldog.

Remember that choke collar is not a tool for everyone. Every handler who wears choke collar on his English Bulldog should know the following rules: - Never use a choke chain collar as a full time tool and leave your English Bulldog alone.
- Proper fit is important. The choker should sit high up on the neck. Keeping the choker high on the neck will give you better control, and it will lessen the risk of injury a lot.
- We recommend using the choker with a regular collar while walking. Keep a separate lead on both collars, walk with the regular collar, and use the choke for corrections only.
